Florida Unpaid Wages Lawyer

Both Florida and federal laws mandate employees be properly compensated for hours worked. Florida Minimum Wage Act, F.S. 448.01 et. al., allows employees to bring a lawsuit in civil court to recover unpaid wages for their labor. Under the statute, a successful individual may be entitled to liquidated damages, lawyer’s fees, and costs, in addition to unpaid wages. Currently, the Florida minimum wage is $11 per hour, with a minimum wage of at least $7.98 plus tips for tipped employees. Contact our Florida unpaid wages lawyers for more information.

Similarly, the Fair Labor Standards Act establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child employment standards. Under the Act, employees working more than forty (40) hours in a workweek may be compensated at a rate of one and one-half times the regular rate of pay. The Act also establishes overtime exemptions for certain employees, such as executive, administrative, professional employees, outside sales employees, employees in certain computer-related occupations, as well as certain farmworkers, seasonal workers, and domestic service workers. The Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division offers additional resources and information regarding exemptions and calculations of hours worked. Contact our Florida unpaid wages lawyers.
