Can an employer dock my pay?

Return to FAQ Videos

Transcript:

The answer to whether an employer can take money out of your paycheck depends on what you have agreed to. Under some policies and procedures, an employer may be able to take money out for uniforms, computers, that aren’t returned, cellphones that aren’t returned, or key, but that’s the type of thing that would need to be in writing. What’s important to keep in mind is that at no time can your employer ever hold your last paycheck or deduct so much money that you’re not receiving at least your state minimum wage.
