Is my employment handbook a contract, and can I enforce the policies?

Return to FAQ Videos

Transcript:

While your employment handbook might not necessarily be recognized as a contract under the law, you can still be terminated, or disciplined, for not following the provisions of your handbook, so if you do have an employment handbook that’s been given to you by your employer, it’s important that you do read and understand what those provisions and obligations are towards you as an employee. Now you can sometimes use that handbook if it’s being applied to you in different ways than your other co-workers with regard to a potential discrimination case or some other sort of situation where you think that the policies are being used towards you unfairly.

If you do have questions about what that might be, you can talk with a labor and employment lawyer who can advise you further about those.
