Must employers pay minors or young workers the same minimum wage?

Return to FAQ Videos

Transcript:

Yes, minors and younger workers are protected under both state and federal law. Under federal law, the minimum working age is 14. There are limits as to the number of hours a minor can work and that’s true for anyone under the age of 16. How many hours they can work per week depends on 2 things, their age and whether or not school is in session or if it’s summer session or a break. There’s also obligations to pay over time for minors and adults alike. That law is the same for everybody.
