What information must I provide if I file a charge of discrimination?

Return to FAQ Videos

Transcript:

If you’re an employee or a job applicant and you’re filing your own EEOC, charge of discrimination, it’s called the EEOC form for, you should include all of the elements which you feel like you’ve been discriminated against. You do not need an lawyer to help you through this process, although it’s a good idea.

There are boxes that need to be checked and any box that’s left unchecked could jeopardize your rights in the future. You also want to be certain to include your dates of employment and the dates of discriminatory treatment. There’s a very limited, short time period to file a charge of discrimination, so don’t delay. In some places, you only have 180 days, 300 or 365 days, just depending on which statute you’re protecting.
