What is a protected class?

Under the laws in the state of Florida, protected class is a class that’s protected against discrimination in the workplace. The recognized protected classes in the state of Florida are based on your age, religion, national origin, your sexual orientation, under some local ordinances. Those are just a few examples of the protected classes that are recognized in the state of Florida. As a protected class, you are free from discrimination under local and federal laws based on your protected class. Employers are prohibited under the law from making decisions with regard to an individual’s employment based on that individual’s protected class.
