Will AI Really Replace Your Job?

Will AI Really Replace Your Job?
Since the dawn of artificial intelligence, mass unemployment and job replacement have been widespread concerns, but is the hype actually true? Is AI replacing jobs today, or will it in the near future?
The short answer: AI is not replacing all jobs. Artificial intelligence is being used to increase productivity across the board, but it is not fully replacing human workers.
Cathleen Scott, board-certified employment lawyer, cites statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, World Economic Forum, and S&P Global to highlight how more jobs will be created than are displaced over the next few years.
What the numbers say:
By 2030, the World Economic Forum estimates that 92 million jobs could be displaced, while more than 170 million new jobs could be created. These projections reflect several major trends shaping the global workforce, including technological advancement and AI. While AI may displace some jobs, the broader projections point toward continued demand for human employees.
Certain jobs may be more vulnerable than others. Entry-level or administrative positions, in which repetitive cognitive tasks make up a large portion of job duties, may be at higher risk than more specialized or customer-facing positions.
The takeaway:
Despite the risk of artificial intelligence displacing jobs, current projections point to overall job growth through 2030. In practice, artificial intelligence is increasingly being utilized in the workplace to increase productivity rather than simply to cut costs and replace human employees. At the same time, AI is already affecting employment in certain industries, making it important for both employers and employees to understand how these changes may impact the workplace.
